COMSATS Students bring Pride to Pakistan

25+ Countries, 180 Projects - 3 Finalists

Electrical Engineering students of CIIT Islamabad Campus shone bright and won a free Trip to NIDays 2016, Beirut to present their project at final competition.  They Managed to get 2nd Position in NI Graphical System Design Musabaka 2016 - Student Design Contest, held in Beirut Lebanon on 6th May, 2016. The team of 3 Undergraduate students (7th Semester) from the Electrical Engineering Department won the second prize in this rigorous and highly competitive project competition where more than 25 countries from all over the Middle East, Gulf Countries and North Africa participated with showcasing 180 projects.


Students (8th Semester) from UET Lahore also managed to get selected in Finalists based on the project titled "Solar Electric Car Based on a three phase induction motor and its speed control by space vector modulation and V/f algorithm using NI myRIO FPGA". UET Students stood 3rd in competition. Winners were the Graduated students from Alexandria University (Egypt) 
This competition was held under the patronage of National Instruments, a technology company who are the technology leaders in platforms for Industry, Academia and Research. National Instrument's annual academic day which was held in Beirut, Lebanon holds a student design competition named GSD MUSABAKA. Entries for this competition are sent from all over the Middle East, Gulf Countries and North Africa.

The COMSATS Islamabad Electrical Engineering team comprising of Haris Hassan, Mudasir Akbar and Muhammad Ahsan Idrees were among the top three projects selected as the finalists and were given the opportunity to come and present their project in front of delegates at the International Conference NI Days 2016. The final year undergraduate project, "Development of a LowCost Aquaponics Food Production System" has been a cost effective project designed to address various global problems like Food Insecurity, Global Warming, and Water Scarcity. 

The project was supervised by Dr. Fasih Uddin Butt, Associate Professor and Associate Head of Electrical Engineering Department, COMSATS Islamabad & mentored by Ms. Nida Zamir.  The Electrical Engineering team is grateful to the Worthy Head of Architecture Department and others for extending their full support and cooperation. 
These students have brought laurels to their Institute and to the country. The delegates from many countries praised their efforts and the quality of engineering students in Pakistan.
